The APPPF (Agency for the Promotion of Professional Photography in France) has organized the third edition of the photographic prize called “Photographs of the Year”. A competition reserved for European professional photographers meant to promote their know-how.

For this edition, there were sixteen categories:

Animal photography, Architecture photography, Digital creation, Culinary photography, Student work photography, Humanist Photography (street photography), Young talent photography, Wedding photography, Fashion and beauty photography, Nature and environment photography, Still life photography, Portrait, Landscape photography, Photojournalism photography, Performance/Show photography and Sport photography.

The jury, made up of professionals of the image and presided by Odile Andrieu, Artistic Director of “Promenades de Vendôme” has made its choice from 2,800 photographs sent by over 300 photographers. The Photo of the Year has been chosen from these categories

The results of this third edition were revealed on March 26th, in the space Kiron in Paris. The awarded images and the winners can be found above.

The Photo of the year 2011

It is the photography of Frédéric Sautereau, taken in Port au Prince, Haiti in April 2010, entitled “Alsendo, 48 years old, lost her husband in the earthquake of January 12th in the destruction of their house. She has six children and lives in the neighborhood of Nelio”. It has been awarded as the photo of the year 2011.

Frédéric Sautereau, born in 1973, is an independent photographer. He has been member of the agency Oeil Public from 1998 to April 2009. In 2006, he was the first photojournalist to denounce the abuses by the Centro African military against the populations from the north of the country. For this work, he received in 2008 the Grand Prix Paris Match for photographic feature reporting. In January 2010, he went to Haiti after the earthquake. Currently, he leads a project on Hamas in the Gaza strip that has been awarded with the Golden Visa (Visa d’Or) by the daily press in September 2010, in Perpignan.

During the awards ceremony, Guy le Querrec gave an honorary trophy to Jürgen Schaderberg to celebrate his career. Jürgen Schaderberg celebrates this year his 65 years in photography.
